Accessing Lab Resources
The WUST SOC Lab is available for use by students, faculty, staff, and WUST alumni. Given the powerful nature of certain cybersecurity and ethical hacking tools available in the lab, it is crucial to ensure users are knowledgeable and responsible in their usage.Therefore the users must:
- Obtain permission from the Lab Manager.
- Attest to their understanding of proper lab usage.
- Sign a disclaimer before being granted access to the lab.
Lab Rules
To maintain a safe and effective learning environment, the following rules must be adhered to:
- Be Quiet: Keep the lab quiet and maintain order to ensure a conducive working environment for all users.
- No Food or Drinks: Do not bring food or drinks into the lab to prevent damage to equipment.
- No Socializing: The lab is a place for study and work, not for social gatherings.
- No Inappropriate Content: Do not view or print inappropriate websites or materials.
- Do Not Tamper with Equipment: Do not attempt to repair, adjust settings, or change paper in printers. Report any issues to the lab supervisor.
- No Commercial Use: Lab equipment should not be used for commercial purposes or financial gain.
Privacy and Legal Compliance
While WUST respects user privacy and does not routinely intercept communications, users should be aware of their responsibilities under the Patriot Act. Users are accountable for any computer files, databases, and internet sites accessed using WUST technology resources. Additionally, pursuant to a valid court order, law enforcement agencies can request that WUST disclose previously confidential information accessed or gathered using WUST technology resources.
Reporting Issues
Users must immediately report all unsafe conditions or malfunctioning equipment to the lab supervisor. We ask for your understanding and cooperation in enforcing these guidelines to ensure the safety of all users and the protection of our investment.
Penalties
Failure to abide by these rules may result in severe penalties, including but not limited to loss of lab access privileges.

SOC Lab_Eligibility
The SOC Lab at Washington University of Science and Technology (WUST) is open to a variety of users who are committed to enhancing their skills in cybersecurity and ethical hacking. Access to the lab is granted to the following groups:
Students: Undergraduate and graduate students enrolled in cybersecurity, information technology, or related programs are eligible to use the lab for hands-on learning, projects, and assignments. Students must complete an orientation session to ensure proper and ethical use of lab resources.
Faculty: Faculty members involved in teaching, mentoring, or conducting research in cybersecurity, information technology, and related fields are encouraged to use the lab for instructional purposes and academic research projects.
Staff: WUST staff members working in cybersecurity, IT, or network administration may use the lab for professional development, training, and skill-building to help maintain and improve institutional security measures.
Research Collaborators: Approved external researchers and industry partners who collaborate with WUST on cybersecurity-related research and development projects may gain access to the lab’s resources, subject to institutional guidelines and agreements.
Special Program Participants: Individuals enrolled in certified training programs, workshops, or cybersecurity boot camps organized by WUST are eligible to use the lab facilities during the course of their program.
